A company will meander aimlessly without a strong culture to guide it. At National Group we are proud not just of the quality culture we have grown but with the consistent efforts the entire team puts into ensuring this culture continues to thrive.
Our Mission
Our work will always look past the surface of the structure and understand the greater value of each project. It will deliver ongoing security and reward to our team. It will recognise the client within, the companies and communities around, the generations beyond.
Vision
We will continue to be market leaders in asset, building and infrastructure preservation thanks to our unwavering commitment to exceptional nationwide customer service and our innovative products, systems and technologies.
Our Values
The core values of our business are set in stone.
No matter the size or location they ensure each project can be approached with consistent focus, united effort and unwavering professionalism. Here are the key directives each and every team member learns by heart.
Communication. Be clear and confident.
Understanding what is being done (and why) is a vital part of our daily work within the team and with our clients. That is why we take pride in always communicating with precision, speed and consistency. At an individual, company and community level this straight talking approach is vital to our continued success.
Presentation. Keep up appearances.
It’s not just the final result of our work that must look its best. We unashamedly uphold high standards of personal presentation. Our people must look, dress and act professional at all times. If we are prepared to ignore a small mess today we must be ready for a big one tomorrow. That’s why we put such emphasis on always maintaining a no-mess approach.
Safety. Provide peace of mind
Safety is not just about you. It’s the team you work with. The people who use the buildings you work on. It’s about those who you go home to, who you share your life with, your friends, family and the wider community. The consequences of not staying safe on site can affect everyone. We must always do things safely and surely.
Efficiency. Find the best way.
Our reputation has been built on doing the job quickly and efficiently. We’re about always finding the smart way of doing things. To ensure speed and safety across each job and continued cost-effectiveness for the client we must be disciplined in our focus and diligent in our work. No detail is too small, no job too hard. We do it once. And we do it right.

Our History
With five generations in the business, a wealth of specialist expertise and a vast array of happy clients it’s safe to say the Waite family have been doing far more than simply keeping up appearances over the years.
Behind the scenes the hard yards have gone in developing the company to where it can offer the very best maintenance services to buildings of all shapes and sizes, no matter how challenging the design, no matter where these buildings may be.
The company has a deep-rooted legacy within the industry. In the late 1800’s Rueben Waite set up shop in Bradford, England as a painter. It’s safe to say the business model was a little different back then.
When Rueben first opened for business his sign read ‘Painters, Glaziers, Grainers, Undertakers’.
When Rueben first opened for business his sign read ‘Painters, Glaziers, Grainers, Undertakers’. His son, Norman Sr, came to New Zealand in 1920 and began his career as a painter here, focusing on providing a consistent level of service and quality to all types of clients. In the 1960s the lineage continued with Norman’s son, Trevor, starting his own business. Trevor had a son he named in honour of his father.
The younger Norman is a company director and active contributor today, having inherited both his grandfather’s name and his dedication to consistent results. After working in the business since the 1970s Norm is now proud to run the company alongside his sons, Richard and Johnny.
Over the last 15 yrs the Waites have developed the organisation from a family painting business into a market leading, innovative, multi-trade company delivering large scale nationwide projects.
We’ve come a long way through the generations (you’ll certainly have to look elsewhere for a mortician!). But at its heart this is still a family business that applies all those early, hard earned lessons, to large scale projects.
Still delivering consistency. Only change is its now nationwide.
